An Extended Look
Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 6 and premiered it on Netflix on August 27, with the full video reaching YouTube and the Rockstar site a few hours later. It runs about 27 minutes and every frame was captured in-game on a standard PlayStation 5.
It was the first proper look at moment-to-moment play: driving, robberies, police chases, base jumping, fan boats and nightlife across Leonida. Netflix reported 31.1 million views in its first four days, making it the most-watched title on the service that week.
Systems Rockstar has confirmed
- A six-star wanted level, up from five in GTA V
- Optional romance between Jason and Lucia, who stay partners in crime regardless
- Body and lifestyle systems: weight, exercise and the effects of missing sleep
- Story choices, big and small, that shape how each character is seen
- Tropical storms and hurricanes, with weather that varies across the map rather than all at once
- More than 170 animal species across Leonida
- No microtransactions and no generative AI at launch
The map: about twice the size of GTA V
In Game Informer's September cover story, Rockstar's Aaron Garbut said Leonida is roughly twice the size of GTA V's map, with far more density and enterable interiors. Its six regions are Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Music: radio stations, podcasts and an album
Rockstar revealed the first radio stations on October 8. Hosts include Bad Bunny on Cocoteo FM, Lana Del Rey and Morgan Wallen on Back Country Radio, Burna Boy on AfroBank FM, Slayer's Kerry King and Tom Araya on metal station The Chamber 106.6, Robyn on Flash FM, and Trick Daddy and Trina on Dirty South Classics. For the first time you can listen on foot through in-game headphones, and on-demand podcasts are in too.
Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, 34 original tracks from artists including Travis Scott, Morgan Wallen, PinkPantheress, Fred again.., Rauw Alejandro and Keith Richards, releases on November 19.
Platforms, PC and online
GTA VI launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X and Series S only. Rockstar has not announced a PC version. An October 6 report that Xbox Cloud Gaming would make the game playable on PC at launch was denied by Xbox the next day, and an October 13 report pointing to a PC release in early 2027 is unconfirmed.
Launch is single-player. Twitch's CEO said he expects GTA VI multiplayer in 2027, but Rockstar has not confirmed any online timing.
